Cancelling a scheduled renewal

How to stop an auto-renewal that has been scheduled before it fires and creates the new contract version.

1 min read

When does a renewal get scheduled?

When a contract is in Auto-renew after notice mode and enters the notice window, DottSign schedules a renewal for the current date. A banner on the contract detail page shows the scheduled date.

You can cancel this scheduled renewal at any time before it fires. After it fires, the new version already exists — see what to do if the renewal has already executed.

How to cancel a scheduled renewal

  1. Open the contract from your dashboard.
  2. Scroll to the Auto-Renewal panel in the right sidebar.
  3. If a renewal is scheduled, you will see the scheduled date and a Cancel upcoming renewal button.
  4. Click Cancel upcoming renewal.
  5. Confirm the prompt.

The scheduled renewal is cleared. The contract will continue toward its original expiry date without a new version being created.

Note: Cancelling a scheduled renewal does not disable auto-renewal. If you want to prevent future renewals entirely, also toggle Enable auto-renewal off and save.

What happens after you cancel

  • The contract owner receives a confirmation email.
  • The scheduled date is removed from the contract.
  • The contract will expire on its original date unless you manually renew it or re-enable auto-renewal.

If the renewal has already executed

If the daily job ran before you cancelled and the new version has already been created, you cannot undo the renewal automatically. Both versions remain in your contract history.

To archive the new version and continue working with the original, contact support.
